About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health is soliciting applications for the Kidney Precision Medicine Project Tissue Interrogation Sites (TIS) cooperative agreement to analyze human kidney tissue and discover new disease pathways enabling precision clinical trials, with applications due July 10, 2026. Clinical trials are not permitted under this solicitation.
Eligible applicants include for-profit organizations, nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations, higher education institutions (public and private), small businesses, and other entity types. The TIS will operate collaboratively with Recruitment Sites, the Kidney Tissue Atlas Coordinating Center, and Central Hub to obtain and evaluate kidney biopsies from participants with acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease, create a comprehensive Kidney Tissue Atlas, define disease subgroups, and identify critical cells, interstitial components, pathways, and therapeutic targets. All KPMP personnel will actively participate in scientific discovery and promote open science. Work will employ highly integrated multi-modal analytic pipelines to interrogate kidney biopsy tissue.
The opportunity is funded under CFDA 93.847 (Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research) administered by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The cooperative agreement is the funding instrument. The full NOFO was posted June 3, 2026.
