About this opportunity
The National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences are soliciting applications for fundamental research in mathematics and statistics at the interface of biological and biomedical sciences, with an application due date of September 20, 2027. Applicant types are unrestricted. The initiative offers two submission tracks with distinct budget ceilings: Track 1 supports projects up to $600,000 over 3 years, and Track 2 supports projects up to $1,200,000 over 3 to 4 years. The program is designed to encourage new collaborations and support innovative activities by existing teams. Research must address fundamental questions in the biological and biomedical sciences through mathematical and statistical approaches. Awards are made under CFDA 47.049 (Mathematical and Physical Sciences) for NSF funding and CFDA 93.859 (Biomedical Research and Research Training) for NIGMS funding. Applications are submitted through Grants.gov; the NSF Grants.gov Application Guide (NSF 24-006, effective May 20, 2024) governs submission requirements, including project narrative limitation to 15 pages and budget justification to 5 pages. Senior and key person salary compensation across all NSF-funded awards is limited to no more than two months of regular salary per year. Applicants should submit at least five business days before the deadline to allow time for compliance error corrections.
