About this opportunity
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is soliciting proposals for the International Capacity Development for Weather and Climate Forecasting and Disaster Risk Reduction (ICD-WCFDRR) program. The goal of this program is to improve the capacity of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) organizations worldwide to implement end-to-end early warning systems. Applicants must be U.S. private non-profit entities or academic institutions, and proposals should focus on collaborations between operational meteorologists, climatologists, hydrologists, and researchers to develop and implement innovative programs that will improve weather and climate-based early warning systems in developing countries. The evaluation criteria will prioritize proposals that expand 3D-Printed Automatic Weather Stations, provide training and capacity building, support operational and maintenance of communication devices, and develop multi-hazard early warning systems. Applications must be received by November 29, 2024.
NOAA anticipates providing up to $15 million per year for up to 5 years, totaling $75 million, subject to availability of funds. The expected project start date is February 10, 2025. The program is funded under the Meteorologic and Hydrologic Modernization Development grant program (CFDA 11.467).
