About this opportunity

This notice of funding opportunity announces a grant to support implementation of Guatemala's Police Athletic League program. Eligible applicants include U.S. and foreign non-profits and educational institutions. The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs will award funding to carry out activities between May 2024 and May 2026. The program aims to engage at-risk youth through sports and reduce crime and gang involvement by establishing soccer, basketball and dance programs in zones 5 and 21 of Guatemala City; providing equipment and training officers and volunteers; and coordinating competitions and community service projects. Applicants must submit proposals by March 18, 2024.

The Bureau may award up to $200,000 to support work under this grant. All funded activities must be carried out within the Central District of Guatemala, specifically targeting at-risk youth ages 7 to 18 living in high-crime, rural areas with low police presence within zones 5 and 21 of Guatemala City. The funding opportunity is assigned to the Trans-National Crime program under the International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement account to improve relations between law enforcement and communities in Guatemala through community outreach programs.
