About this opportunity

The Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion is soliciting applications for the Healthy Cooking in Communities cooperative agreement program with an August 17, 2026 application deadline. Approximately three awards of $3,000,000 each are anticipated from a total estimated funding pool of $9,000,000. Cost sharing is not required but is encouraged.

Eligible applicants include state and local governments, special district governments, county governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal organizations), public and private higher education institutions, public or Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations, and 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, provided applicants are located in a U.S. state or territory. Applicants must demonstrate organizational capacity to manage subawards and coordinate implementation partners at national scale.

Recipients will operate under 12-month cooperative agreements with a 15-week national activation period beginning in late summer 2026. Awards support establishment and coordination of a network of regional and local implementation partners to conduct a minimum of 600 community cooking demonstrations across at least 40 geographic locations, with each location executing one demonstration per week during activation. Target geographic locations must be identified using data-driven approaches prioritizing rural and suburban communities with elevated obesity and diet-related chronic disease rates. Demonstrations promote practical cooking skills, nutrition literacy, and preparation of minimally processed, nutrient-dense foods aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The anticipated budget should support demonstration activities at approximately $5,000 per event, inclusive of planning, staffing, food and supplies, outreach, and participant engagement materials.

Applications are limited to 15 pages for project narrative and 20 pages combined for project narrative plus appendices. Electronic submission via Grants.gov is required. Recipients must submit periodic performance project reports and quarterly financial reports. The anticipated award date is no later than September 30, 2026.

This opportunity is assigned to CFDA 93.990, National Health Promotion.
