About this opportunity

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is soliciting applications to expand substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services in existing drug courts, with an application deadline of July 16, 2026. SAMHSA will accept and review only the first 50 complete, successfully submitted, and high-quality applications received via eRA; once this threshold is met, the submission portal will close.

Eligible applicants include Single State Agencies for Substance Use, U.S. territories (the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau), local governments, federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations, state administrative agencies, service providers, community and nonprofit organizations, universities and colleges, research institutions, and training and technical assistance providers. No cost share is required.

Grant recipients must implement a coordinated, multisystem approach combining the legal authority of treatment drug courts with evidence-based substance use disorder treatment services. Key stakeholders include the judiciary, prosecution, defense attorneys, probation services, law enforcement, mental health professionals, social service agencies, and treatment providers. The program objective is to disrupt the recurring pattern of criminal behavior, substance use, and incarceration or other legal consequences.

Awards are determined through merit review, program analysis, and concurrence from the CSAT National Advisory Council. This opportunity is funded under CFDA 93.490 (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment Projects of Regional and National Significance).

Synopsis

The purpose of this program is to expand substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery support services in existing drug courts. Grant recipients will be required to implement a coordinated, multisystem approach that combines the legal authority of treatment drug courts with evidence-based SUD treatment services.

IMPORTANT NOTE: SAMHSA will accept and review only the first 50 complete, successfully submitted, and high-quality applications received via eRA. Once this threshold is met, the submission portal will close, and no further applications will be considered.
