About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs is soliciting grants to support organizations planning, developing, managing, and implementing adaptive sports programs for disabled veterans and members of the Armed Forces with disabilities. Eligible applicants include non-federal government entities, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, educational institutions, and tribal organizations that demonstrate significant experience managing large-scale adaptive sports programs, with key personnel possessing at least two continuous years of relevant experience immediately prior to application. Grant funds support adaptive sports activities including instruction, participation and competition in sports, training and technical assistance for administrators and coaches, equipment provision, and program evaluation. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov by 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on May 13, 2026, and will be evaluated on nine criteria totaling 100 points: NOFO compliance (5 points), adaptive sports activities (10 points), program objectives and design (15 points), program management and past performance (15 points), capability for successful execution (15 points), collaborations (10 points), financial capability (5 points), financial plan (15 points), and reasonableness of costs (10 points), with applications scoring below 65 points removed from consideration.
The VA anticipates awarding approximately $16,000,000 across approximately 100 grants with a maximum award of $750,000 per organization for a one-year performance period with an anticipated start date of September 30, 2026. Grant funds may allocate no more than 5% for administrative expenses and cannot be used for research, medical services, construction, pre-award expenses, or non-veteran population support. Grantees will perform adaptive sports activities nationwide across diverse geographic locations, with recent award distributions spanning states including Colorado, California, South Carolina, Texas, and New York, requiring quarterly and annual reporting to the VA throughout the performance period.
