About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Research Laboratory is soliciting applications for Geospatial Intelligence Processing and Exploitation (GeoPEX) funding through September 30, 2026, under the Air Force Defense Research Sciences Program (CFDA 12.800). Submissions must be made through SAM.gov; Grants.gov submissions will not be accepted.
Eligible applicants include private and public educational institutions, nonprofit organizations operated primarily for scientific, educational, or similar purposes in the public interest, and commercial concerns. The program funds grants, cooperative agreements, and procurement contracts to maintain technological superiority in Air Force-relevant scientific areas, prevent technological surprise, and sustain research infrastructure.
Award decisions result from competitive peer and scientific review. Recent Defense Research Sciences Program awards across Air Force laboratories and affiliated institutions cluster in the $100,000 to $400,000 range, with representative recent grants including $815,547 for magnetic field energy transport research, $748,210 for superconducting quantum microwave materials, and $466,230 for quantum circuit configurations. The five-year award trend shows 609 awards in fiscal 2022, declining to 157 year-to-date in 2026.
Recipients must comply with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards) and Department of Defense Grants and Agreements Regulations. Research proposals shall be prepared in accordance with instructions in individual program announcements. Record-keeping requirements follow terms and conditions of the award, including provisions required by DoDGARs.
