The program fosters impactful, multidisciplinary urology research through diverse collaborations within and outside the centers and serves as a national resource for the urology research community. Research priorities align with NIDDK programmatic areas, including urologic diseases, basic and clinical studies on etiology, pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Standard NIH evaluation criteria apply: scientific merit and significance; technical adequacy of experimental design; investigator competency; facilities and resources; budget necessity relative to proposed work; and relevance to program objectives. Peer review occurs through an appropriate scientific review panel and the National Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Advisory Council. Approved applications compete on merit basis for available funds. Records must be retained for three years from annual Federal Financial Report submission or longer if litigation or audit is pending.
