About this opportunity
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is soliciting applications for the FY26 National Dam Safety Program State Assistance grants by September 2, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with approximately $7.486 million available across roughly 50 awards ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 per award. Eligible applicants are states except Alabama and Puerto Rico, each with an approved state dam safety program authorized by state legislation. Recipients must maintain state funding at or above the average of the prior two fiscal years.
The period of performance runs 24 months from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2028, with an anticipated award date of September 30, 2026. Applicants must submit through the FEMA Grants Outcomes (FEMA GO) system and hold a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), active SAM.gov and Grants.gov accounts, and Login.gov registration before submission.
Eligible activities include reducing risk to life and property through dam inspections, condition assessments, emergency action plan development, and regulatory enforcement actions; increasing public awareness of dam-related risks through outreach and messaging; and improving state dam safety programs through best practices, risk analysis methodologies, cybersecurity awareness programs, and professional training. Grant funds cannot support dam construction or repair. Recipients must submit quarterly Performance Progress Reports and Federal Financial Reports and comply with federal procurement standards and Buy America preference provisions for infrastructure projects.
This program is funded under CFDA 97.041. Post-award record retention requirements extend three years following final report submission.
Synopsis
