About this opportunity
The Office of Naval Research seeks grant proposals for its Fiscal Year 2025 Young Investigator Program through a Funding Opportunity Announcement. ONR aims to identify and support early career academic scientists and engineers in their first or second tenure-track or equivalent faculty position who received their PhD after January 2017 and show exceptional promise in naval research. Proposals are due by April 30, 2024 and will be evaluated based on technical merit, alignment with ONR research priorities, qualifications of the principal investigator, and a required support letter. Eligible applicants are U.S. institutions of higher education and non-profits conducting research within ONR's interest areas in fields such as command and control, ocean sensing, sea warfare, and air warfare.
Typical awards under this program are grants of up to $750,000 over three years to support outstanding faculty members and encourage their teaching and research careers advancing the Department of the Navy's science and technology goals. The Young Investigator Program falls under the Basic and Applied Scientific Research program of the Department of the Navy Secretary's Office of Naval Research, with up to 25 awards available nationally.
Synopsis
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is interested in receiving proposals for its Young Investigator Program (YIP). ONR's Young Investigator Program seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment, who have received their PhD or equivalent degree on or after 01 January 2017, and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of U.S. Institutions of Higher Education (hereafter also called "universities") to the Department of the Navy's Science and Technology (S & T) research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. Individuals who are holding U.S. non-profit equivalent positions are also encouraged to apply.
Proposals addressing research areas (as described in the ONR Science and Technology Department section of ONR's website at https://www.nre.navy.mil/ ) which are of interest to ONR Program Officers will be considered. Contact information for each division (a subgroup of an S & T Department) is also listed within the S & T section of the website.
Applicants are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to contact the appropriate Program Officer who is the point of contact for a specific technical area to discuss their research ideas before submitting a proposal. A list of most Program Officers and their contact information can be found at:
