About this opportunity
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the Department of the Interior is seeking applicants for the FY25 IIJA/IRA California Fuels Management and Community Fire Assistance program. This cooperative agreement opportunity aims to reduce the risk and impact of catastrophic wildfires to local communities through coordination, hazardous fuels reduction, and education on wildfire prevention and mitigation. Eligible applicants include state/local governments, tribal organizations, higher education institutions, and non-profit organizations. The program focuses on activities such as fuels management on federal/non-federal land, fire education and training, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, expanding local employment, and implementing monitoring plans. The application period runs from January 10, 2025 through March 11, 2025, with projects starting around August 1, 2025 and ending by September 30, 2030.
The BLM plans to award approximately 5 cooperative agreements totaling $10 million, with individual awards ranging from $50,000 to $10 million. Funding for this program comes from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), supporting BLM's goals of creating resilient landscapes, addressing climate change impacts, and reducing catastrophic wildfire risks in wildland-urban interface areas across California.
Synopsis
BLM California has an opportunity to work with partner organizations to assist with fuels management and community fire assistance program activities to reduce the risk and impact of catastrophic wildfires to local communities through coordination, reducing the amount of hazardous fuels, and furthering the education of landowners about wildfire prevention and mitigation. These activities will assist BLM in addressing the effects of climate change by working to create resilient landscapes and communities, will create jobs, and it will help further conservation and restoration efforts by providing an opportunity to support planning and implementation of hazardous fuels reduction projects in wildland urban interface (WUI) areas and education and outreach programs that help create fire adapted communities and resilient landscapes. This program supports the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Public Law 117-58, Sec. 40803 Wildfire Risk Reduction. This program supports projects funded through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Sections 50221 Resilience, 50222 Ecosystems Restoration and 50303 DOI. California Program Strategic Goals: Accomplish fuels management activities on federal and non-federal land. Develop and implement fire education, training, and/or community action plans/programs. Conduct Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs), community wildfire assessments, and planning activities. Expand community capability to enhance local employment opportunities. Develop and implement short and long-term monitoring and maintenance plans for hazardous fuels reduction, community fire education and training, and community action programs.
