About this opportunity

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking cooperative agreement applications for the FY25 Fuels Management and Community Fire Assistance Program, focusing on strategic wildland fire prevention and ecosystem management. The program aims to reduce wildfire intensity and severity through activities such as vegetation management, community mitigation efforts, hazardous fuel reduction, and fire prevention education in wildland-urban interface (WUI) areas. Eligible applicants include county and tribal governments, city/township governments, higher education institutions, and 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits. Proposals will be evaluated based on their ability to develop local capacities, implement fuels management treatments, support community fire adaptation, and align with the Department of the Interior's conservation stewardship priorities. The grant opportunity is open from June 23, 2025, to July 23, 2025, with a submission deadline of July 23, 2025.

The total funding available is $17,836,000, with an expected 46 awards ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000 per cooperative agreement. Project durations typically span three to five years, with a geographic focus on western states including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana/Dakotas, New Mexico, Oregon/Washington, and Utah. Successful projects will demonstrate clear objectives for reducing wildfire risks, supporting local employment, and implementing comprehensive fuels management strategies on federal and adjacent non-federal lands. The program prioritizes collaborative approaches that create tangible benefits for local communities and ecosystems through strategic fire prevention and vegetation management initiatives.

Synopsis

Wildland Fire Fuels Management and Community Assistance Program activities represent strategic investments in managing vegetation by reducing the intensity, severity, or negative effects of wildfire. These initiatives provide cost-effective benefits to the American people, help restore and maintain healthy ecosystems and support communities in becoming fire adapted. Program activities include developing local capacities through assessment and planning, community and homeowner mitigation efforts, and implementation of fuels management treatments and activities. This involves training, monitoring, or implementing/maintaining fuels management on federal land or adjacent non-federal land to benefit federal resources, as well as assisting with wildfire prevention to mitigate risks to communities and their values. Additionally, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has an opportunity to collaborate with partner organizations to support these efforts, reducing the intensity, severity, risk, and impact of catastrophic wildfires on local communities through coordination, hazardous fuel reduction, and further education on wildfire prevention. These activities help create jobs and advance conservation and restoration efforts through planning and implementation of hazardous fuels reduction projects in wildland-urban interface (WUI) areas. This work aligns with the Department of the Interior's priorities to create a conservation stewardship legacy while generating revenue and utilizing natural resources, while also reflecting BLM's commitment to develop and sustain partnerships and streamline processes to serve its customers and the public effectively and efficiently.
