About this opportunity
The Food and Nutrition Service of the US Department of Agriculture seeks proposals for a cooperative agreement to study the school foodservice workforce. Research projects should examine dimensions such as worker satisfaction, experience, training and career pathways. Eligible applicants include academic and research institutions. The selected recipient must award over 50% of funds through a competitive subgrant process to additional organizations for research activities. Applications will be evaluated based on the proposed approach, management plan, staffing qualifications, and budget. Proposals are due February 9, 2024.
Up to $1.5 million will be awarded to support research through March 2027. The recipient will design stakeholder engagement strategies, administer the subgrant competition, oversee subgrantee work, compile findings into reports, and ensure ongoing data access. Subgrantee research will provide descriptive statistics and qualitative information to better understand the demographics, experiences and impacts of those serving child nutrition programs nationwide.
Synopsis
This Request for Applications (RFA) announces the availability of funds for a cooperative agreement. This funding opportunity will support research projects to better understand and generate information related to the school foodservice workforce focused on dimensions such as worker satisfaction, workforce experience, and training and development. Relevant research activities may include, but are not limited to providing information on career pathways for the school foodservice workforce, including training and skill-building opportunities, promotion potential, and tenure/retention within individual employers and the industry as a whole; identifying skills used on the job by role, including analysis of transferability of skills to other industries; identifying level of worker satisfaction and describe workplace conditions (perception and objective measures); and examining how any of the above vary across roles, demographics, school/school food authority (SFA) characteristics, and geography.
