About this opportunity

This cooperative agreement opportunity from the Bureau of Land Management seeks applicants to support projects that address environmental quality and protection issues through the Abandoned Mine Lands program. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, nonprofits, higher education institutions, and tribal organizations to implement personnel, travel, equipment, supply, contractual, and construction services to reclaim abandoned mine sites, reduce hazards from such sites, and manage air quality. Applications will be evaluated based on project need, approach, benefits, and applicant qualifications, with notice of awards by March 15, 2024 for projects starting April 1, 2024.

Up to $2 million is available for five awards ranging from $20,000 to $750,000 each, with periods of performance up to five years. The funding will support projects throughout Montana and the Dakotas to reclaim abandoned mine lands, reduce related environmental risks and hazards, establish partnerships addressing mine sites, and manage air quality in the region through the specified services. Cost sharing is encouraged but not required.
