About this opportunity

The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy is seeking applicants for the FY24 Energy and Emissions Intensive Industries (EEII) program. This funding opportunity aims to accelerate decarbonization across the industrial sector and support the Biden Administration's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The program will focus on subsector-specific decarbonization approaches for the highest emitting and most challenging industrial subsectors, including chemicals and refining, iron and steel, cement and concrete, forest and paper products, food and beverage, and other industries such as glass and aluminum. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as the potential impact on emissions reductions, technical feasibility, and alignment with program objectives. The deadline to submit proposals is July 2, 2024.

The funding for this opportunity will be provided through cooperative agreements, with a range of award values expected. Successful projects may span from applied research to pilot-scale demonstrations, with funding potentially ranging from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions of dollars over one to five-year periods. Work locations will vary based on the applicant's facilities and field sites.
