About this opportunity
The FY2024 Historic Preservation Fund - Tribal Heritage Grants program, administered by the Department of the Interior National Park Service, provides funding for cultural and historic preservation projects focused on protecting traditional skills, oral history, sacred places, and establishing tribal historic preservation offices. The program is open to federally recognized Tribes, Alaska Native Villages/Corporations, and Native Hawaiian Organizations. Applications will be evaluated based on factors like demonstrating community commitment through non-federal match, meeting Secretary of Interior Standards, and keeping administrative costs under 25% of the total project budget. The application deadline is February 27, 2025, with an anticipated project start date of August 1, 2025 and end date of August 1, 2027.
The program offers grants ranging from $15,000 to $75,000, with a total program funding of $600,000. Properties receiving development assistance must place preservation covenants/easements ranging from 5-20 years based on the grant amount. The geographic scope is not limited, as eligible applicants include Tribal Governments, Tribal Organizations, and Native Hawaiian Organizations across the United States.
Synopsis
The National Historic Preservation Act authorizes grants to federally recognized Tribes for cultural and historic preservation projects. These grants assist Tribes, Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiian Organizations in protecting and promoting their unique cultural heritage and traditions. From the beginning, the program has been shaped by Tribes. It focuses on what they are most concerned about protecting: Traditional skills, oral history, plant and animal species important in tradition, sacred and historic places, and the establishment of tribal historic preservation offices.
