About this opportunity
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is offering $49 million in competitive grants under the Fiscal Year 2024 Electric or Low-Emitting Ferry Pilot Program (ELEF). The grants are available for capital projects to purchase electric or low-emitting ferry vessels and related charging infrastructure. Eligible applicants include designated and direct recipients of FTA funding, as well as public entities providing passenger ferry service in urban areas. Projects will be evaluated based on criteria such as reducing emissions, demonstrating need, creating good-paying jobs, and aligning with the Justice40 Initiative. Applications are due by 11:59 pm ET on June 17, 2024 through Grants.gov.
The ELEF program is part of a broader $316 million in competitive ferry-related funding available in FY 2024, which also includes the $51 million Passenger Ferry Grant Program and the $216 million Ferry Service for Rural Communities Program. The maximum federal share for ELEF projects is generally 80% of net project costs, with allowances for up to 85% or 90% for certain vehicle-related projects.
