About this opportunity

The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is soliciting applications for the Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program (FASLP, Assistance Listing 10.522) with an application deadline of July 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The program anticipates approximately $930,539 in available funding to support approximately 4 awards ranging from $1 to $230,000 each, with an award floor of $200,000. No cost sharing or matching is required.

Eligible applicants include state agricultural experiment stations, colleges and universities, research institutions, federal agencies, national laboratories, private organizations, nonprofits, individuals, and consortia of two or more such entities. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in community food work, farm-to-school programs, job training, food insecurity reduction, or related activities; provide at least three letters of support from key organizations; include a logic model and data management plan; and demonstrate competency in project implementation, evaluation, and fiscal accountability.

FASLP funds 24-month Extension Projects designed to increase knowledge of agriculture and improve children's nutritional health by expanding farm-to-school initiatives, food and nutrition education capacity, and leadership development opportunities for students. Proposals must address local food system needs, describe involved organizations and their qualifications, establish measurable goals and outcomes, detail implementation activities with timelines, explain project sustainability beyond the federal funding period, and include a comprehensive evaluation component (5–10 percent of budget recommended).

Merit review criteria evaluate proposals on merit (20 points), relevance to FASLP goals (20 points), organizational expertise and experience (20 points), project viability and self-sustainability (20 points), and evaluation strength (20 points). Indirect costs are capped at 30 percent of total federal funds awarded.

Synopsis
