About this opportunity
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is soliciting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 Expanding Nutrition Services (ENS) program to support HRSA-funded health centers in increasing access to nutrition services that prevent, manage, and treat chronic diseases through nutritional and food-based interventions. Eligible applicants must be active Health Center Program (H80) award recipients under Section 330(e) of the Public Health Service Act and must demonstrate a commitment to increasing the number of nutrition services patients or visits within 120 days of award. Applications are evaluated on six merit review criteria: Need (20 points), Response (20 points), Collaboration (15 points), Impact (20 points), Capacity (20 points), and Support Requested (5 points), with additional consideration given to geographic distribution, assessed risk, and alignment with HRSA Mission and Strategic Priorities. The application deadline is June 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, and applicants must submit a 50-page project narrative, detailed budget narrative with staff justification, SF-424 and SF-424A forms, H80 grant number documentation, and supporting attachments including equipment lists and environmental compliance documentation as applicable.
The program offers up to $350,000 annually over a two-year period (September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2028), with $125 million in total available funding supporting approximately 357 competing supplement grants to existing health centers. Award recipients may allocate up to $150,000 in year one for equipment and minor renovation projects, with allowable uses including food costs, nutrition service contracts, kitchen equipment, food gardens, and transportation related to nutrition services. Grant funds support expansion of nutrition services at health centers serving medically underserved communities across the United States and its territories, with award decisions considering rural-to-urban geographic distribution to maintain a ratio between 2:3 and 3:2.
