About this opportunity
This federal grant opportunity from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration seeks proposals for projects that build statewide K-12 environmental literacy capacity in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Eligible applicants including state and local governments, tribes, non-profits, and institutions of higher education are invited to propose projects that support environmental literacy planning, professional development, and implementation of Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences. Evaluation criteria will include the project's relevance to program goals, technical merit, applicant qualifications, costs, and outreach. Applications are due February 16, 2024 with announcement of selected applications anticipated in August 2024.
Approximately $500,000 will be awarded to 4-6 recipients for one to two year projects through cooperative agreements. Successful projects will advance NOAA's Chesapeake Bay Watershed Education and Training program goals of building capacity for hands-on environmental education and professional development for educators serving formal K-12 audiences in the Chesapeake Bay watershed states.
Synopsis
Chesapeake B-WET is a competitive grant program that supports existing, high-quality environmental education programs, fosters the growth of innovative programs, and encourages capacity building and partnership development for environmental literacy efforts throughout the entire Chesapeake Bay watershed states. Successful projects advance the environmental literacy goal of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement and the NOAA Education Strategic Plan by building capacity within organizations and networks that work at the state- or multi-state level to support hands-on environmental education for students and related professional development for teachers, administrators, and other educators who serve formal K-12 audiences. Through this funding announcement, NOAA is soliciting proposals that support Statewide K-12 Environmental Literacy Capacity Building. Note that a separate funding announcement through B-WET for Implementing MWEEs in School Districts and Supporting School District Capacity for Environmental Literacy is also available on Grants.gov.
