About this opportunity
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living (NIDILRR) seeks applicants for the Field Initiated Projects Program (Research), a forecast opportunity funding research to generate new knowledge and develop methods, products, procedures, or technologies that maximize inclusion, integration into employment, independent living, family and caregiver support, and economic self-sufficiency for people with disabilities, especially those with the greatest support needs. No application due date is specified in this forecast announcement.
Eligible applicants include states; public or private agencies, including for-profit agencies; public or private organizations, including for-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; and Indian tribes and tribal organizations. Small businesses, special district governments, nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), city and township governments, and tribal organizations not federally recognized are eligible. Foreign entities are not eligible. Faith-based and community organizations meeting eligibility requirements may compete.
NIDILRR plans to make 16 Field Initiated Projects awards combining research and development applications based on combined peer review rankings. Grants carry a 36-month project period with three 12-month budget periods. Research projects must identify one or more hypotheses or research questions and perform intensive, systematic study directed toward producing new scientific knowledge or better understanding of the subject studied.
Grantees must submit annual progress reports to receive continuation funding beyond the initial 12-month budget period. Support depends on evidence of substantial progress toward achieving project objectives and availability of appropriations. Awards may be renewed annually for up to five years contingent on award specifications.
The opportunity falls under CFDA 93.433, ACL National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. Recent representative awards in this program range from $80 thousand to $2.775 million, with many three-year projects in the $250 thousand to $1 million range.
Forecast synopsis
The purpose of the Field Initiated Projects program is to generate new knowledge through research or to develop methods, products, procedures, or technologies -- to maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family/caregiver support, and economic and self sufficiency of people with disabilities, especially people with disabilities who have the greatest support needs. In carrying out a research project under a Field Initiated Projects research grant, a grantee must identify one or more hypotheses or research questions and, based on the hypotheses or research questions identified, perform an intensive, systematic study directed toward producing (1) new scientific knowledge, or (2) better understanding of the subject, problem studied, or body of knowledge. Please note that this will be the funding opportunity for Field Initiated Projects Research proposals. We will invite Field Initiated Projects Development proposals under a separate announcement. NIDILRR plans to make 16 Field Initiated Projects awards. NIDILRR's Field Initiated Projects will include a combination of research applications and development applications, depending on the combined ranking of individual research and development applications by the peer review panel. Grants will have a 36-month project period, with three 12-month budget periods.
