About this opportunity

The Environmental Protection Agency's Gulf of America Division is soliciting applications for the Farmer-to-Farmer 2025 grant program, with a June 22, 2026 deadline at 11:59 p.m. ET. The program funds water quality and habitat improvement through farmer collaboration in the Gulf of America watershed and contiguous zone.

Eligible applicants are Indian Tribes, state and local governments, institutions of higher education, and nonprofit organizations (excluding 501(c)(4) organizations engaged in lobbying). Cost sharing is not required.

The EPA will award approximately 20–30 grants of $1.5 million to $2.5 million each from a $50 million pool, for a maximum 5-year period of performance. Projects must take place within the Gulf of America watershed or United States contiguous zone in the Gulf of America and must support one of four focus areas: Farmer-to-Farmer Mentorship, Demonstrating Regenerative Farming Benefits through Monitoring, Innovative Technologies for Regenerative Farming, or Habitat Improvement for Nutrient and Soil Management. All activities must align with state Nutrient Reduction Strategies and the Administration's "Powering the Great American Comeback" initiative.

Applications are evaluated on a 140-point scale: project design (35 points), innovative technology including artificial intelligence, machine learning, precision agriculture, and unmanned aerial vehicles (20 points), economic benefits (20 points), environmental results (20 points), milestone schedule (10 points), past performance and capability (10 points), timely expenditure procedures (5 points), and budget reasonableness (20 points). Projects exceeding $200,000 involving environmental data generation require Quality Assurance Project Plans or Quality Management Plans, and all projects must include a Scientific Data Management Plan addressing public access to research data.

The program is listed under Assistance Listing 66.475 and authorized under Clean Water Act Section 104(b)(3). Pre-award costs incurred up to 90 days prior to award may be borne by the applicant at their own risk. Anticipated selection notification is September 2026; award notification is December 2026.
