About this opportunity

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking grant applications from state governments for the FY 2025 Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund Traditional Conservation Grants Program in Region 8 (California and Nevada). The principal objective is to support the development and implementation of state programs focused on conserving and recovering threatened and endangered species under FWS jurisdiction. Eligible projects may include management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities that demonstrate direct benefits to species recovery or prevent species listing under the Endangered Species Act. Evaluation criteria will focus on the project's potential impact on species conservation, alignment with recovery plans, technical merit, and cost-effectiveness. The application deadline is September 19, 2025, with applications due by 11:59 PM ET, and potential applicants must complete required registrations in SAM.gov and GrantSolutions.

The total program funding is estimated at $2,455,587, with approximately 15 awards anticipated ranging from $1,000 to the full funding amount. The expected project period runs from September 30, 2025, to September 30, 2028, providing a three-year window for implementation. Eligible applicants are state government agencies that have entered into or will enter into a cooperative agreement with the Fish and Wildlife Service within 30 days of the application deadline. The grant will support conservation efforts for federally listed resident species, candidate and eligible unlisted species, and recently delisted species within Region 8, which encompasses California and Nevada.

Synopsis

The principal objective of the Traditional Conservation Grant Program is to support the development and implementation of State and Territorial (hereafter, "State") programs to conserve and recover threatened and endangered species under FWS jurisdiction. Financial assistance, provided in the form of grants, can be used to support projects that have direct benefits for federally listed species, candidate and eligible unlisted species, and recently delisted species. States may apply for funding to conduct conservation work on federally listed resident species that are included in the State"s cooperative agreement. States may also apply for funding to monitor candidate, eligible unlisted, and recently delisted species. Projects proposed for funding may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities or any combination thereof. Applications should include clear and specific information about how the proposed work would contribute to species recovery or prevent the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Successful applications will be those that clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the species or its habitat.
