About this opportunity
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking applications from state governments for the FY 2025 Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund Traditional Conservation Grants Program in Region 6. The principal objective is to support the development and implementation of state programs focused on conserving and recovering threatened and endangered species. Eligible projects may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities that directly benefit federally listed species, candidate species, and recently delisted species. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria including species listing status, alignment with recovery plans, technical merit, and project costs, with priority given to proposals that demonstrate clear contributions to species recovery or prevention of species listing under the Endangered Species Act. The application deadline is December 5, 2025, with electronic submissions required through GrantSolutions.gov.
The total estimated funding for this grant opportunity is $756,753, with expectations to award approximately 8 grants ranging from $1,000 to $756,753. Grants require a minimum 25% non-federal cost share and will support conservation efforts in the Region 6 states: Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. The anticipated project period is from September 30, 2025, to September 30, 2028, providing recipients with a three-year window to implement their proposed conservation activities. Successful applicants will be those presenting comprehensive proposals with direct and measurable benefits to endangered species or their habitats.
Synopsis
The principal objective of the Traditional Conservation Grant Program is to support the development and implementation of State and Territorial (hereafter, "State") programs to conserve and recover threatened and endangered species under FWS jurisdiction. Financial assistance, provided in the form of grants, can be used to support projects that have direct benefits for federally listed species, candidate and eligible unlisted species, and recently delisted species. States may apply for funding to conduct conservation work on federally listed resident species that are included in the State"s cooperative agreement. States may also apply for funding to monitor candidate, eligible unlisted, and recently delisted species. Projects proposed for funding may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities or any combination thereof. Applications should include clear and specific information about how the proposed work would contribute to species recovery or prevent the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Successful applications will be those that clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the species or its habitat.
