About this opportunity

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund Traditional Conservation Grants Program for Region 4 seeks to support state-level conservation and recovery efforts for threatened and endangered species. State governments with cooperative agreements are eligible to apply for grants that fund projects involving management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities directly benefiting federally listed, candidate, and recently delisted species. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria including species listing status, relevance to program goals, technical merit, and project costs, with the highest priority given to proposals demonstrating clear potential for species recovery or preventing species extinction. Applicants must provide a 25% non-Federal cost share, which can be reduced to 10% for multi-state collaborations. The application deadline is December 5, 2025, with an anticipated project start date of December 5, 2025, and a project period extending through December 5, 2028.

The total estimated funding for this grant opportunity is $3,366,779, with expectations to award approximately 75 grants ranging from $1,000 to $3,366,779. Projects must focus on conservation work for federally listed resident species within Region 4, which encompasses southeastern states. The grants will support a variety of conservation activities, including habitat restoration, species surveys, research, propagation, and public education. Successful applicants will submit their proposals through GrantSolutions.gov and must clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the target species or its habitat. The program aims to provide financial assistance that contributes meaningfully to endangered species preservation and recovery efforts.

Synopsis

The principal objective of the Traditional Conservation Grant Program is to support the development and implementation of State and Territorial (hereafter, "State") programs to conserve and recover threatened and endangered species under FWS jurisdiction. Financial assistance, provided in the form of grants, can be used to support projects that have direct benefits for federally listed species, candidate and eligible unlisted species, and recently delisted species. States may apply for funding to conduct conservation work on federally listed resident species that are included in the State"s cooperative agreement. States may also apply for funding to monitor candidate, eligible unlisted, and recently delisted species. Projects proposed for funding may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities or any combination thereof. Applications should include clear and specific information about how the proposed work would contribute to species recovery or prevent the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Successful applications will be those that clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the species or its habitat.
