About this opportunity
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking applications for the FY 2025 Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund Traditional Conservation Grants Program in Region 5. This grant opportunity aims to support state-level conservation efforts for threatened, endangered, candidate, and recently delisted species through financial assistance. Eligible applicants are state governments with active cooperative agreements under section 6(c) of the Endangered Species Act, focusing on projects involving management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria including species listing status, alignment with recovery actions, program relevance, technical merit, and cost-effectiveness. The key deadline for submission is September 19, 2025, with applications to be submitted through GrantSolutions.gov.
The total estimated funding for this opportunity is $818,529, with approximately 10 grants expected to be awarded ranging from $1,000 to $818,529. Grants require a minimum 25% non-Federal cost share and have an anticipated project period from September 30, 2025, to September 30, 2028. The highest priority will be given to projects that directly contribute to species recovery, prevent extinction, or eliminate the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act. Proposals must clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the target species or its habitat, with a focus on conservation efforts within the designated Region 5 area.
Synopsis
The principal objective of the Traditional Conservation Grant Program is to support the development and implementation of State and Territorial (hereafter, "State") programs to conserve and recover threatened and endangered species under FWS jurisdiction. Financial assistance, provided in the form of grants, can be used to support projects that have direct benefits for federally listed species, candidate and eligible unlisted species, and recently delisted species. States may apply for funding to conduct conservation work on federally listed resident species that are included in the State"s cooperative agreement. States may also apply for funding to monitor candidate, eligible unlisted, and recently delisted species. Projects proposed for funding may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities or any combination thereof. Applications should include clear and specific information about how the proposed work would contribute to species recovery or prevent the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Successful applications will be those that clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the species or its habitat.
