About this opportunity
Paragraph 1:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering Recovery Land Acquisition Grants through the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund. This grant program promotes state and federal cooperation in listed species conservation by providing funds to acquire land, either through fee simple or conservation easement, in support of Service-approved recovery plans. Eligible applicants are state governments that have entered into a Cooperative Agreement under Section 6 of the Endangered Species Act. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as contribution to species recovery, ecosystem functionality, population viability, habitat connectivity, threat of land conversion, and project readiness. The application deadline is January 8, 2025.
Paragraph 2:
The total estimated funding available is $14.162 million, with a maximum award of $14.162 million and a minimum of $10,000. The grant requires a non-Federal cost share of 25% for single-State projects or 10% for multi-State projects. The Service expects to make up to 16 awards, with the expected award date of May 30, 2025. The work under this grant program will be performed across the United States in areas with threatened and endangered species.
Synopsis
First awarded in fiscal year (FY) 2001, Recovery Land Acquisition grants promote State and Federal cooperation in listed species conservation by leveraging funds to acquire specific parcels of land, through fee simple or conservation easement, in support of Service-approved recovery plans and outlines. The ESA conveys the importance of recovery plans as a central organizing tool for guiding the recovery process by requiring their development for every listed species.
