About this opportunity

The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking proposals for the Fiscal Year 2025 Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) Grants program. The NMBCA is an annual, competitive grants program that supports projects promoting the conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats across the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Eligible applicants include state/local governments, tribes, nonprofits, institutions of higher education, small businesses, and foreign entities. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as addressing conservation priorities, partnerships, sustainability, and measurable outcomes. The deadline for submitting proposals is October 31, 2024.

The total funding available for this program is estimated at $5 million, with individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $250,000. The program expects to make 20-35 awards, with at least 75% of the funding going to projects outside the United States. A 2:1 partner-to-grant match is required for all projects, which must demonstrate benefits to neotropical migratory bird species and involve local participation.

Synopsis

The United States Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) established an annual, competitive grants program to support projects that promote the conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Division of Bird Habitat Conservation (DBHC) is responsible for managing the NMBCA grants program and administers all grants. Applicants submit project proposals to the DBHC during the program's one funding cycle per year. The FWS Director selects the projects for funding. This program supports the DOI and FWS mission of protecting and managing the nation's natural resources by collaborating with partners and stakeholders to conserve land and water and to expand outdoor recreation and access. NMBCA proposals contribute to efforts to support climate resilience, leverage partnerships, and support land conservation and biodiversity efforts.
