About this opportunity

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is forecasting approximately 16 competitive awards under the Eviction Protection Grant Program to provide no-cost legal assistance to low-income tenants at risk of or subject to eviction; no application deadline is specified in this forecast. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), special district governments, and public and private higher education institutions. Ineligible applicants include individuals, foreign entities, sole proprietorships, for-profit higher education institutions, Public Housing Agencies, and Tribally Designated Housing Entities. Recent awards range from $500 thousand to $2.5 million, with clusters around $2 million to $2.5 million; the program obligated $73.2 million across 42 awards in the current portfolio. Grants carry 24-month periods of performance. Supported services include legal representation (full and limited scope), counsel and advice, alternative dispute resolution advocacy, court navigation, community education on tenant rights, assistance with rental arrearage programs, and post-eviction housing stability services. The program sustains a cadence of approximately 21 awards per year; the prior funding round was January 2025 and the announcement before that closed August 20, 2024. Applications undergo threshold eligibility review followed by scoring by panels of at least three independent reviewers using criteria published in the annual NOFO. The program operates under 2 CFR Part 200 and the FY 2021 and FY 2022 Terms and Conditions. CFDA 14.537.
