About this opportunity

The Federal Grant Opportunity DE-FOA-0003015 aims to fund research in collaboration with industry and academic research partners to enhance public understanding of Carbon Dioxide Enhanced Oil Recovery in unconventional oil reservoirs, the potential of combining Enhanced Oil Recovery and associated Carbon Dioxide storage in unconventional oil wells, and the possibility of combining Enhanced Oil Recovery and associated Carbon Dioxide storage in a way that reduces the carbon footprint of the incremental oil produced. This research aligns with the Administration's "net zero" carbon economy 2050 goal. The grant's submission deadline and expected dates for selection notifications and award have been extended, and the estimated funding, anticipated award size, and Maximum DOE share have been modified.

List of services and products to be provided:

  1. Research on the overall effectiveness of Carbon Dioxide Enhanced Oil Recovery in unconventional oil reservoirs.
  2. Research on the possibility of combining Enhanced Oil Recovery and associated Carbon Dioxide storage in horizontal, hydraulically fractured unconventional oil wells.
  3. Research on the potential for combining Enhanced Oil Recovery and associated Carbon Dioxide storage in a manner that results in a reduced carbon footprint oil classification for the incremental oil produced.
