About this opportunity
The Earth Mapping Resources Initiative Mine Waste Cooperative Agreements program is soliciting proposals from state governments for mine waste inventory, characterization, sampling and mapping activities. The United States Geological Survey seeks to allocate approximately $5 million to support these cooperative agreements through September 2024. Projects must address at least one of three priorities around populating an ArcGIS database, field-based sampling and resource estimation, or travel to an October 2024 workshop. Proposals are due by April 2nd and will be evaluated based on technical merit, societal benefits, applicant qualifications, and reasonable budgets.
Individual awards will range from $2,000 to $354,000, with all funds to be expended by September 30, 2024. Successful applicants will conduct mine waste work in their respective states to advance the goals of the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative program in mapping critical mineral resources under CFDA #15.073.
