About this opportunity

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District is seeking a cooperative agreement for a research project focused on studying dry season prey concentrations in the Everglades ecosystem. The primary objective is to monitor and analyze aquatic fauna densities and biomasses during the dry season, with the goal of understanding how prey concentrations relate to wading bird breeding activities and support the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). Applicants must be members of specific Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) Regions, including Gulf Coast, Piedmont-South Atlantic Coast, and South Florida-Caribbean. The Principal Investigator is required to hold a PhD in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field, with direct experience monitoring native aquatic fauna in the Everglades and conducting seasonal sampling across large spatial scales. Statements of Interest are due by 2:00 P.M. Central Time on August 28, 2025, with a 30-calendar day review period from the posted date.

The base period of performance is 12 months from the date of award, with potential for four additional 12-month follow-on periods. Approximately $234,142.70 is available for the base period, with the possibility of additional funding in subsequent periods. The research will involve sampling prey densities in Water Conservation Areas and Everglades National Park from January through mid-May, with an optional expansion into Big Cypress National Preserve. The project is funded under the Conservation and Rehabilitation of Natural Resources on Military Installations program (CFDA 12.005), which supports environmental management and conservation activities on Department of Defense lands.
