About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center is forecasting grant funding for research on the development, validation, feasibility, and effectiveness of innovative digital health interventions or tools—including mobile health—suited for underserved settings in the U.S. and globally, with no hard deadline provided for this forecast.

Eligible applicants include tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), county and city governments, special district governments, state governments, public and private higher education institutions, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, for-profit and non-profit organizations (including 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) structures), faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, and non-domestic entities.

Applications must employ reciprocal innovation methodologies—bidirectional and iterative exchange of ideas, resources, and innovation approaches—to address shared health challenges between U.S. and low- and middle-income country (LMIC) researchers. Research should utilize new or emerging technologies, platforms, systems, and analytics to address high-priority health problems, expand the evidence base for digital health technology in clinical and public health outcomes, and strengthen U.S.-LMIC research collaborations. Awards will maximize generalizable knowledge and optimize benefit to both U.S. and LMIC populations by leveraging unique data, environments, and populations in domestic and international contexts.

This opportunity falls under CFDA 93.989, International Research and Research Training. Initial scientific and technical merit review occurs through the Center for Scientific Review; a second-level review follows by the Fogarty International Center's Advisory Board, with funding decisions made by FIC program officers and executive leadership. Evaluation criteria assess scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, facility and resource adequacy, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives.
