About this opportunity

The Dialogues on the Experience of War program, offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), supports in-person, virtual, and hybrid projects that build communities of inquiry to enhance veterans' and nonveterans' understanding of military service and war through humanities-based discussion groups. The program requires two components: discussion programs that convene small groups for in-depth dialogues on humanities sources related to war and military service, and preparatory programs to recruit, train, and mentor discussion leaders. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, state/local governments, and federally recognized Tribal governments. The application deadline is September 17, 2024.

The program provides awards of up to $100,000, and NEH anticipates awarding approximately $1,000,000 across an estimated 10 recipients. The program is funded under the Promotion of the Humanities Professional Development grant program (CFDA 45.163).

Synopsis

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Education Programs is accepting applications for the Dialogues on the Experience of War program. This program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war and military service, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others think deeply and in dialogue about the issues that they raise. Dialogues discussion groups may include exclusively veterans (including a subset of veterans such as students or residents of a group facility); nonveteran students or members of the public; military-affiliated persons; or any mix of these groups.
