About this opportunity

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity to invite applications for clinical trials and large clinical observational studies conducted within a Dental Primary Care Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN); applications are not being solicited at this time, and no hard deadline is set.

The forecast covers a broad applicant base: 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, higher education institutions (public and private), state and local governments, county and city/township governments, special district governments, tribal governments (federally recognized and other), tribal organizations not federally recognized, small businesses, for-profit organizations, public or Indian housing authorities, independent school districts, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, U.S. territories or possessions, and eligible federal agencies.

Supported research will focus on integrating oral health care into medical care, including screening for medical conditions and health behaviors in dental care settings with appropriate referrals to medical providers for follow-up care. Studies will utilize PBRN infrastructure and resources for study planning and implementation, conducted in participating dental clinical practices with consenting patients. NIDCR encourages investigators with expertise in observational studies or clinical trials in practice-based research settings to apply and to develop meaningful collaborations during the forecast period.

The cooperative agreement funding instrument will support study planning and implementation. No cost share, award ceiling, award floor, or expected number of awards is specified in the forecast.

Research falls under CFDA 93.121 (Oral Diseases and Disorders Research) and is authorized under the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 241 and 284) and 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200.
