About this opportunity

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) seeks applicants for a Coordinating Center for the National Human Ear Resource Network through a cooperative agreement, with applications due by 5:00 PM local time on March 5, 2027. NIDCD intends to fund one award with a maximum direct cost of $200,000 per year and a project period of up to five years. Applications proposing clinical trials are not responsive to this NOFO.

Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), nonprofits with and without 501(c)(3) status, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), tribal organizations, special district governments, independent school districts, city and township governments, Indian housing authorities, eligible federal agencies, faith-based and community-based organizations, regional organizations, and U.S. territories or possessions. Non-domestic entities and foreign institutions are not eligible.

The Coordinating Center will serve as a national technological resource for auditory and vestibular researchers using human inner and middle ear tissues for basic and clinical studies. The Center must coordinate and chair regular meetings with Network laboratories, disseminate information regarding Network activities to scientific and clinical communities, and facilitate collaboration within the Network and across laboratories in the United States. The Research Strategy must describe how the Center will foster collaboration, conduct outreach (including website maintenance and virtual seminars), and evaluate success with clearly defined milestones. A Data Management and Sharing Plan is required.

NIDCD will provide substantial programmatic involvement through quarterly teleconferences, data access, and participation by NIDCD Scientific and Program Officers in Network meetings. Funding priority will be given to applicants who have submitted meritorious applications to the companion NOFO RFA-DC-28-001. The opportunity is assigned to Assistance Listing 93.173 (Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders). Scientific merit review is anticipated in July 2027, with advisory council review in October 2027 and an earliest start date of March 5, 2027.
