About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is soliciting applications for the Cooperative Centers for Experimental Hematology (CCEH) Program, a cooperative agreement funding opportunity with an application due date of September 30, 2026. Applicants are restricted to domestic U.S. entities; non-domestic entities and foreign subawards or subcontracts are not eligible, though multi-institutional domestic applications are encouraged. Non-domestic components of U.S. organizations and unfunded international collaborations are permitted.
Eligible applicant types include higher education institutions (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, state and local governments, tribal governments and organizations, school districts, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations, and small businesses. Applications are limited to one per institution.
NIDDK intends to commit approximately $3.745 million in fiscal year 2027 to fund approximately five awards. Anticipated direct costs are approximately $650,000 per year for a maximum project period of five years. Each Center will support one to three Biomedical Research Cores and an Administrative Core including an Enrichment Program. The Administrative Core Director must contribute a minimum of 1.2 person-months; Biomedical Research Core Directors must contribute a minimum of 0.6 person-months each.
The program aims to increase access to critical research resources and expertise for nonmalignant hematology research by creating a national hub that attracts junior scientists and established investigators. Centers must establish recharge systems (fee-for-service) for core usage and participate in mandatory annual face-to-face meetings in Bethesda, Maryland beginning Spring/Summer 2027. Each Center must work collaboratively with NIDDK, the Hematology Coordinating Center, and other CCEH Centers. Scientific merit review is anticipated in March 2027, with advisory council review in May 2027 and earliest project start date of September 30, 2026.
The assistance listing is CFDA 93.847 (Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research).
Synopsis
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to invite applications for Centers within the NIDDK Cooperative Centers of Experimental in Hematology (CCEH) Program. Each Center will support one to three Biomedical Research Cores and an Administrative Core, including an Enrichment Program. Each Center is expected to work collaboratively with NIDDK, the Hematology Coordinating Center (HCC), and the other CCEH Centers. The CCEH Program is designed to increase access to critical research resources and expertise unique to nonmalignant hematology research. By providing innovative technology, resources, and expertise to the greater hematology research community, the program will serve as a national hub, aimed at recruiting and retaining both junior scientists just beginning their careers in the field as well as established investigators from other domains.
