About this opportunity

The U.S. Geological Survey is soliciting applications from Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) partners for a one-year cooperative agreement to develop authoritative knowledge infrastructure for the GeoAI Application supporting the Intelligent National Map, with applications due July 9, 2026.

Eligibility is restricted to affiliated partners with the Great Lakes-Northern Forest CESU. No cost share is required. The award ceiling is $49,995 with one anticipated award. Work is performed during a one-year period of performance with place of performance aligned to CESU partner locations.

The project requires development of agentic infrastructure enabling natural language queries across diverse authoritative geospatial data sources and delivery of meaningful answers to USGS-provided queries in the form of reports, analyses, charts, and related information products. Research directly aligns with nine Executive Orders addressing critical minerals strategy, artificial intelligence leadership, geographic names accuracy, scientific integrity, wildfire prevention, and water resources management.

Evaluation criteria are weighted as follows: Purpose, Objectives, and Relevance (30 points); Technical Approach (25 points); Qualifications, Experience, and Past Performance (25 points); and Budget Justification and Clarity (20 points). The negotiated Indirect Cost Rate is 17.5%.

Application materials submitted through Grants.gov (Funding Opportunity Number G26AS00132) must include technical narrative, Data Management Plan, Biographical Sketch Common Form, Current and Pending Support Common Form, Project Abstract Summary (one page maximum), and SF 424A budget form. Recipients must submit annual progress reports within 90 days of each agreement year and final technical reports within 120 days of project completion, along with annual SF 425 Federal Financial Reports. All geospatial data produced must comply with Federal Geospatial Data Committee standards and be submitted as open data files with complete metadata. CFDA 15.808.
