About this opportunity

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) solicits proposals for research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) of three key concentrating solar-thermal (CST) technologies: scalable concentrating solar collectors, scalable supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) turbomachinery, and scalable concentrating solar-thermal receivers and reactors. The goal is to advance these technologies to enable broader deployment of CST systems, which can support the decarbonization of the energy system and industrial processes. Concept papers are due May 16, 2024, and full applications are due August 16, 2024, with an expected award negotiation period from December 2024 to March 2025.

The total estimated funding available is $18 million, with a maximum federal funding of $3 million for Tier 1, $5 million for Tier 2, and $10 million for Tier 3 projects, depending on the technology readiness level. Cost share is required. The work under this FOA is expected to last 12-36 months and be performed at the recipient's facilities or field sites within the United States.
