About this opportunity
The National Science Foundation CISE Directorate is soliciting applications for Future Computing Research (Future CoRe) grants across eleven subdisciplines, with applications due February 4, 2027. Eligible applicants are institutions of higher education accredited and located in the US, non-profit non-academic organizations including independent museums, observatories, research laboratories, and professional societies directly associated with educational or research activities, and federally recognized Tribal Nations. If a proposal includes funding to an international branch campus of a US institution, the applicant must justify why the project activities cannot be performed at the US campus and explain the benefit to the project.
Awards carry a ceiling of $1,000,000 over up to 4 years. Typical projects budget approximately $150,000 to $250,000 per year and run 3 to 4 years in duration; projects exceeding $300,000 in any single year are discouraged. Project duration and budget must be commensurate with proposed scope. Estimated program budget, number of awards, and average award size are subject to availability of funds.
The program encompasses Algorithmic Foundations, Communications and Information Foundations, Computer Systems Research, Computing Education Research, Cyber-Physical System Foundations and Connected Communities, Foundations of Emerging Technologies, Human-Centered Computing, Information Integration and Informatics, Networking Technology and Systems, Robust Intelligence, and Software and Hardware Foundations. The program funds research and education projects that develop new knowledge in computing, communications, and information science and engineering.
Assistance Listing 47.070 (Computer and Information Science and Engineering) applies.

- Algorithmic Foundations (AF) program;
- Communications and Information Foundations (CIF) program;
- Computer Systems Research (CSR) program;
- Computing Education Research (CER) program;
- Cyber-Physical System Foundations and Connected Communities (CPS) program;
- Foundations of Emerging Technologies (FET) program;
- Human-Centered Computing (HCC) program;
- Information Integration and Informatics (III) program;
- Networking Technology and Systems (NeTS) program;
- Robust Intelligence (RI) program; and
- Software and Hardware Foundations (SHF) program;
The CISE Future Computing Research program anticipates a portfolio of awards with a range of budgets and durations, including projects of smaller scope. Project durations and budgets must be commensurate with the scope of the proposed work up to the maximum limit of $1,000,000 with a duration up to 4 years. Typical projects are approximately $150,000 to $250,000 per year and are 3 to 4 years in duration. Projects are discouraged from exceeding $300,000 in any single year.
