About this opportunity
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks applicants for cooperative agreements to support the Clinical Trials in Organ Transplantation in Children and Adults (CTOT-CA) program, a forecast opportunity with no posted application deadline.
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, for-profit organizations, small businesses, state and local governments, county governments, city and township governments, independent school districts, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal governments and organizations, faith-based or community-based organizations, regional organizations, U.S. territories or possessions, eligible federal agencies, and non-domestic entities.
CTOT-CA supports multicenter clinical trials with mechanistic studies across heart, lung, kidney, liver, and intestinal transplantation. The program also funds clinical trials of non-hematopoietic cellular transplantation as replacement therapies, vascularized composite tissue transplantation, and trials of bone marrow or mesenchymal stem cells or immunologically active cells as adjuncts to organ transplantation. Each clinical trial must include associated studies of immune mechanisms.
Awards are issued under CFDA 93.855 (Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research). The funding instrument is a cooperative agreement, which entails federal programmatic involvement beyond a standard grant. All applications undergo scientific merit review by an initial review group and the National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council. Evaluation criteria assess scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of design, investigator competency, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity, and relevance to program objectives. Grantees must retain financial and programmatic records for three years from the date the final annual fiscal status report is submitted to NIH.
