About this opportunity
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting applications for grants supporting American Indian and Alaska Native tribes in planning and developing comprehensive, community-based systems of care (SOC) for children, youth, and young adults through age 25 and their families, with applications due July 15, 2026.
Eligible applicants include federally recognized tribal governments, tribal organizations not federally recognized, and other eligible entities as defined under CFDA 93.532. The program funds coordinated networks of mental health and essential supportive services designed to be family-driven, youth-guided, and community-based. SOC approaches ensure services address the varied needs of target populations while promoting independent and productive lives.
The program operates under CFDA 93.532, Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance, which encompasses knowledge development and application projects, training and technical assistance programs, targeted capacity response initiatives, and systems change grants. Award amounts, the number of awards, and the period of performance are determined as part of the Notice of Funding Opportunity. Merit review considers the proposed project description, with applications awarded directly by SAMHSA following merit review, program analysis, and concurrence by the CMHS National Advisory Council. Records retention extends three years beyond project completion or until final audit findings are resolved, whichever is later.
Synopsis
The purpose of this program is to support American Indian and Alaska Native tribes in planning and developing a comprehensive, community-based system of care (SOC). A SOC is defined as a coordinated network of effective mental health and essential supportive services organized to address and meet the varied needs of children, youth, and young adults (birth through age 25), and their families. The SOC approach strives to ensure that mental health services are family-driven and youth-guided, and community-based.
