About this opportunity
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is soliciting cooperative agreement applications for innovative research on factors causing human behaviors and the oral-systemic health impacts of those behaviors among people with chronic conditions, with an application deadline of July 5, 2029. Clinical trials are not allowed. NIDCR explicitly excludes non-domestic entities and foreign components of U.S. organizations from eligibility.
The opportunity accepts applications from state governments, tribal organizations (federally and non-federally recognized), nonprofits (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), higher education institutions (public and private), city and county governments, public or Indian housing authorities, special district governments, independent school districts, for-profit organizations, and small businesses. No cost share or match is mentioned.
Applicants should develop or refine causal hypotheses incorporating biological, biopsychosocial, congenital, environmental, interpersonal, neurological, psychological, and comorbidity factors that individually, sequentially, or in combination contribute to human behaviors and oral-systemic health outcomes. Project results must be positioned for clinical trials translation to prevent, treat, and manage dental, oral, and craniofacial conditions. NIDCR particularly encourages collaborative investigations combining expertise in dental, oral, craniofacial, and systemic health across the lifespan, including care and services, and seeks applicants with expertise in behavioral, biological, biopsychosocial, public, and social sciences.
Evaluation criteria include scientific merit and significance, investigator competency, innovation and novelty of concepts and methodologies, technical adequacy of experimental design, adequacy of facilities and resources, budget necessity relative to proposed work, and relevance to NIDCR program objectives. All applications undergo two-level review: initial review by external peer scientists and secondary review by the National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council.
The opportunity operates under CFDA 93.121, Oral Diseases and Disorders Research, authorized under the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 241 and 284).
Synopsis
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications for innovative research on the factors that cause human behaviors and the oral-systemic health impacts of those behaviors to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability among people with chronic conditions. Causal hypotheses may include biological, biopsychosocial, congenital, environmental, interpersonal, neurological, psychological, and comorbidity factors that individually, sequentially, or in combination trigger human behaviors and oral-systemic health outcomes, with impacts that may be direct or traceably distal. Applications that propose projects to develop or refine causal hypotheses also are encouraged.
Eligibility
Refer to Section III. Eligibility Information in the NOFO for additional information on eligibility.Foreign Organizations/International Collaborations:Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations) are not eligible to apply.Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply.Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are not allowed.
