About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing the availability of up to $1,500,000 in funding for cooperative agreements to support conservation projects in the Caribbean area of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Eligible applicants include city/township governments, county governments, federally recognized tribal governments, state governments, and non-profit organizations. Projects must be between 1-3 years in duration and focus on priorities such as increasing conservation practice implementation, adapting to climate change, improving productivity and habitat, and supporting urban farming. Applications will be evaluated based on criteria like the potential for measurable conservation outcomes, engagement with local NRCS field offices, and cost-effectiveness. Proposals are due by 11:59 pm ET on May 26, 2024 and must be submitted through Grants.gov.

The funding will be provided under several NRCS grant programs focused on soil and water conservation, environmental quality incentives, and agricultural land protection. The agency anticipates making selections by June 1, 2024 and executing awards by July 20, 2024 for projects to be carried out in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
