About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health National Cancer Institute is soliciting applications to support the Cancer Advancement through Partnerships in Research and Infrastructure (CAPRI) Program through cooperative agreements, with applications due January 25, 2027. This is a limited competition open to Resource Limited Institutions (RLIs) partnered with NCI-designated Cancer Centers; non-domestic entities and foreign components are not eligible.

RLIs must have received less than $50 million in average annual NIH Research Project Grant funds over the three years preceding application and must award degrees in biomedical, health professions, or health-related sciences. Eligible applicant categories include higher education institutions (public), 501(c)(3) nonprofits, non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, independent school districts, other eligible entities, U.S. territory or possession governments, faith-based or community-based organizations, and regional organizations.

Annual award budgets are capped at $1.3 million in direct costs for two-institution partnerships and $1.8 million for three-institution partnerships, with a maximum project period of five years. Applications must include five required components: an Administrative Core, at least one Full Research Project (maximum $275,000 direct costs annually for up to three years), at least one Pilot Research Project (maximum $120,000 direct costs annually for up to three years), a Planning and Evaluation Core, and an Outreach and Engagement Core. Optional shared resource cores may be proposed.

The program aims to build institutional capacity, advance cancer research capabilities, cultivate early-stage investigators and trainees, and implement coordinated outreach and education initiatives addressing health drivers that contribute to differences in cancer outcomes across all populations. Partnerships require reciprocal linked applications from both RLI and Cancer Center, with coordinated PDs/PIs. Applications undergo standard NIH peer review including significance, investigator qualifications, innovation, approach, environment, partnership sustainability, and RLI capacity building. The earliest project start date is July 2027. Work is performed at the RLI and Cancer Center locations. CFDA 93.399.
