About this opportunity

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), with other National Institutes of Health components, is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity to solicit applications for developing web-accessible data archives to capture, store, and curate data from Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative activities; applications are not currently solicited, and no hard deadline is present.

Eligible applicants include public or private higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), small businesses, for-profit organizations, state and local governments, tribal governments and tribal organizations, housing authorities, school districts, special district governments, eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories or possessions, and faith-based or community-based organizations. Regional organizations are also eligible.

Data archive teams must work with the research community to incorporate software tools enabling data analysis and visualization while using appropriate standards to describe the data. Applications must propose archives supporting rigorous data sharing, analysis, and collaboration across sub-domains while enabling future linkage into a broader data ecosystem. The program uses the R24 activity code and operates under CFDA 93.242 (Mental Health Research Grants).

No award ceiling, floor, or expected number of awards is specified in this forecast. Period of performance and cost share or matching requirements are not detailed. Standard NIH peer review applies: applications are evaluated for scientific and technical merit by appropriate scientific review panels and the National Advisory Mental Health Council. All competitive applications compete on basis of scientific and technical merit, program relevance, and program balance. Funding decisions consider technical merit, available funds, and relevance to program priorities.

The data archives teams will work with the research community to incorporate software tools that enable users to analyze and visualize the data, and to use appropriate standards to describe the data. A goal of this program is to advance research by creating a data archive that meets appropriate standards and provides summary information which is broadly available and accessible to the scientific community furthering research. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the R24 activity code.
