About this opportunity

This cooperative agreement from the Bureau of Justice Statistics seeks applications from state and tribal governments to improve the accuracy, utility, and accessibility of criminal history records and support national record systems. Applicants must demonstrate experience using criminal history records for background checks and have a plan to reduce violent and gun crime by establishing or enhancing computerized criminal history systems. Successful applicants will be evaluated on their proposals to address gaps in criminal records and ensure records are complete and available for interstate sharing. Applications are due no later than May 13, 2024.

Awards under this National Criminal History Improvement Program will provide financial and technical assistance to recipients for criminal history record system computerization and improvement efforts. Funding will support work conducted within states and tribes to establish infrastructure, processes, and procedures ensuring criminal history data quality and completeness nationwide.
