About this opportunity
The Bureau of Justice Statistics is soliciting applications for the Federal Justice Statistics Program cooperative agreement, with applications due August 17, 2026. This is an invited-to-apply opportunity restricted to applicants previously identified by BJS; general competition is not available.
Eligible applicants include state and local governments, nonprofit organizations (both 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, federally recognized Indian Tribal Governments, U.S. territories, and qualified individuals. No cost share is required.
The Federal Justice Statistics Program serves as the national clearinghouse for federal criminal case data, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating federal justice statistics while providing technical assistance to federal agencies to improve data quality and availability. The program receives data from six federal agencies, converts it to Standard Analysis File format, ensures quality and confidentiality standards are met, maintains dyad link files, updates the BJS online query tool, and prepares public-use data files and codebooks for research purposes.
Award ceilings and expected number of awards are not specified in the invitation. Recent awards under the parent Special Data Collections and Statistical Studies program (CFDA 16.734) have ranged from approximately $300 thousand to $5.4 million over multi-year periods, though FJSP awards may fall within a different range.
Applications will be reviewed for eligibility, responsiveness, merit, programmatic and budget considerations, and risk. The Assistant Attorney General makes final award decisions. Successful applicants must accept or decline the award within 45 days of notification in JustGrants.
