About this opportunity

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is soliciting cooperative agreement applications to support state and local site-based forensic science grant awards under nine forensic science grant programs, with applications due June 10, 2026. This is an "Invited to Apply" opportunity, restricting eligibility to organizations that have received direct invitations from BJA.

The program seeks to strengthen forensic science quality and practice through innovative solutions in development, technology, information exchange, and training and best practices resources for the criminal justice community. Award recipients will support and enhance the capacity and program outcomes of existing state and local forensic science grantees, numbering an estimated 500-plus active awards across jurisdictions.

The period of performance is 36 months. Award periods may be extended if specific criteria are met, as outlined in the Department of Justice Grants Financial Guide.

This opportunity operates under the Forensics Training and Technical Assistance Program (CFDA 16.044). The program goal is to establish and operate a Forensic Technology Center of Excellence to support research, development, testing and evaluation, and technology transition activities across all forensic science disciplines.

The review procedure includes eligibility and responsiveness, merit, programmatic, budget, and risk reviews. All final award decisions are made by the Assistant Attorney General. Successful applicants must accept or decline awards within 45 days of notification.
